Food is one of the biggest questions parents ask when planning a birthday party. How much is included? Do I need to bring anything? Can I bring my own cake? The answers change from venue to venue, which is why it helps to know exactly what to expect before you book.
This guide explains what food and drinks are included in a Kart Town birthday party, what basic outside food you can bring, and a few simple ideas for children aged 2 to 9.
What is included in each package
Every party package includes pizza and juice, so the main meal is taken care of. Here is what each package includes:
- Cancun, $328 + HST: 2 XL cheese pizzas and 8 juice boxes, for 8 kids (up to 10, +$30 per extra child).
- Hawaii, $388 + HST: 2 XL cheese pizzas and 8 juice boxes, for 8 kids (up to 10, +$35 per extra child).
- Rio, $638 + HST: 3 XL cheese pizzas and 15 juice boxes, for 15 kids (up to 20, +$35 per extra child).
Parties last two hours and include the playground, bouncy castle, toy car area, an activity coordinator and wristbands. The party room is yours for the celebration: the Bird room has 3 tables and 15 seats, the Dino room has 4 tables and 17 seats, and the Monkey room has 5 tables and 25 seats.
What you can bring
Basic outside food is allowed. That means you can add the things that make a party feel personal, most often a birthday cake or cupcakes. There is also a cake discount, so ordering a cake in connection with your party can save you something.
Typical items families bring include:
- A birthday cake or cupcakes
- Fruit, such as grapes, orange slices or apple slices
- Simple snacks for younger guests, such as crackers or cheese cubes
- Water bottles for adults
- Napkins, wipes and a cake knife
If you are not sure whether something counts as basic outside food, ask when you book. If you have a larger or more elaborate catering idea, it is best to confirm it first.
How much food do you actually need?
Children between 2 and 9 vary a lot in appetite. Younger children often eat a slice of pizza and a few bites of fruit, while older kids may want more. Since the party also includes active play on the playground, the bouncy castle and the track, many children are hungry at the food break, so a bit of extra is wise.
A few simple guidelines:
- Remember that adults at the party may want to eat too, and the included pizza is portioned with the children in mind.
- If you have a few guests above the package count, you can add a small side such as fruit or crackers.
- Keep a few plain options available for fussy eaters, since not every child likes the same toppings.
Cake ideas for a smooth party
Cake is the high point of most birthday parties. To keep it simple:
- Choose a cake that cuts easily. A sheet cake or cupcakes are faster to serve than a layered or tiered cake.
- Bring candles and a lighter, and a cake knife and small plates if you prefer your own.
- Plan the cake for the middle of the party, not at the very end, so there is time to enjoy it and still do some play afterwards.
- For toddlers, cupcakes can be easier than slices since they are easy to hold.
Drinks
Juice boxes are included in each package, one per child within the package count. Parents often bring water or a drink for themselves. If your group includes a child who prefers water, a few bottles are a good idea.
Timing the food break
In a two-hour party, a food break of around thirty minutes fits well. A sample timeline:
- First 40 minutes: arrival, wristbands and play.
- Middle 30 minutes: pizza, juice and cake in the party room.
- Final 50 minutes: more play, go-karts and goodbyes.
Eating in the middle prevents hungry children from becoming restless early on, and it leaves time to burn off energy afterwards.
Dietary needs
The included food is cheese pizza and juice. If any guest has dietary needs, you can bring a suitable alternative as part of the basic outside food, and it helps to let parents know in the invitation what will be served so they can plan. Ask when you book if you have questions about a specific situation.
Decorations and tidy-up
Food and decorations go together. Kart Town parties use light decorations only, with no confetti, loose balloons or piñatas, which helps keep the room tidy after the meal. For ideas, see our guide to mess-free birthday decoration ideas.
Smaller groups and weekday parties
If you have fewer than eight children, want a weekday party, or are thinking about a private rental from $1,500 after 6 PM, call (437) 660-5278 to talk through what is included.
